Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) April 24, 2008 -- How does a highly successful entrepreneur celebrate his 52nd birthday?

If you're anything like Internet marketing leader,

Tom Antion--who prides himself on "dreaming up nutty stuff"--you do three things:

1. You organize a charity fund-raiser.

2. You show up in person to present a prank oversized check --plus a real bank check--in the amount of $24,470 to a surprised and grateful Robin and Jack Gray, founders and directors of the non-profit organization, Tidewater Bichon Frise Rescue.

3. You film the whole presentation and post the video on your I Am Not a Poodle website so others might enjoy the moment and contribute additional monies to the cause.

How did Tom hit on this idea?

As Tom tells it, he knew he wanted to do "something different" to mark his upcoming birthday. Touched and inspired by the Gray's own selflessness regarding the many ill, elderly, abandoned, orphaned, abused and neglected Bichon dogs they foster and care for in their home--including Maggie, the 7 year-old Bichon he and girlfriend Kay Hubin adopted--Tom decided a fund-raiser for Tidewater Bichon Frise Rescue would be the best gift he could give himself.

To collect the monies needed to help the Grays--and to bring awareness to this breed as featured on his I Am Not a Poodle website--Tom turned to his Internet marketing students for help. He explained his idea and promised that in exchange for their generosity, he would provide extra guidance for their online business efforts. The response was instant and enthusiastic.

In a recent follow-up interview, Robin reiterated her gratitude for the charitable windfall and offered an update as to how the funds were being put to good use with the 17 dogs they currently care for.

"Jack and I earmarked the money for the dogs' ongoing medical expenses which can run very high," she said." For example, one Bichon named Freddie came to us with untreated cataracts and a detached retina. He required attention from a veterinary ophthalmologist."

Robin went on to explain that even with treatment, Freddie's condition worsened and required seven separate surgeries. "We expected the medical expenses for Freddie's eyes to be around $3,000, but the bills totaled over $10,000," she says. "Thanks to the kindness of Tom and his Internet marketing students, we had the resources needed to help restore Freddie's eyesight."

When asked to explain the overall impact the money had on Tidewater's rescue efforts, Robin grew pensive. "Since receiving that check from Tom we've not had to turn away even one dog in need of medical attention," she said. "It has made all the difference."
